Answer
Eligibility Requirements: To be eligible to take the Heating Group No. 3 examination an applicant must have 2 years (4000 hours) on-site full-time experience in the design or installation of Heating Group No. 3 systems, whether or not a license is required for the work performed. However, up to one-half (2000 hours) (45 quarter hours or 30 semester hours) of the experience requirement may be in academic or technical training directly related to Heating Group No. 3.
Note! 1 year (2000 hours) must be Primary Experience. The balance of 1 year (2000 hours) may be either Primary or Secondary Experience.
Definitions:
Primary Experience: Direct hands-on, working experience gained by the applicant while engaged actively and directly in the installation of H3 equipment. This requires that the applicant has worked for a licensed H3 contractor (there are a few exceptions).
Secondary Experience: Maintenance, service or repair of H3 equipment.
